Show Review: Jimmy Eat World at House of Blues, Atlantic City 2/11/11

Hey guys, I know it has been a while since we posted anything up here but I decided to do a review of last night's Jimmy Eat World show in Atlantic City that Tom and I both went to.

Ok first off, if you have never seen this band live, you are missing out. They had a ton of energy in just about every single song, starting with Bleed American...all the way through the big finale, Sweetness. With the exception of a soundboard fault causing background music to be playing over the speakers right before Hear You Me, the show was great. Here is the setlist:

1. Bleed American
2. My Best Theory
3. Coffee and Cigarettes
4. Your New Aesthetic
5. Let it Happen
6. Polaris
7. Futures
8. Big Casino
9. Dizzy
10. Action Needs an Audience
11. Pain
12. 23
13. Evidence
14. Hear You Me
15. For Me This is Heaven
16. Work
17. Blister
18. Goodbye Sky Harbor

Encore:
19. Invented
20. The Middle
21. Sweetness

Overall the setlist was very good. Polaris was a great surprise, receiving a loud cheer when it started. The one complaint I have is playing "Invented" right before the big ending. It's my least favorite song on the new album and seemed to dampen the energy of the show, especially going into "The Middle". "23" was definitely the song of the night. Every note was played to perfection, a rarity for 23's live performances. Jim always seems to miss 1 or 2 notes when playing the song but that did not happen last night. Other standouts included "For Me This is Heaven" (which included piano bridge and outro), "Work", and an 8-9 minute performance of "Goodbye Sky Harbor"

The crowd was another story though. There were a lot of people singing along and really enjoying the show, but in our section we had a couple of teenagers (which BTW were the only teenagers there, much older crowd) who tried to mosh during "Futures". Now Jimmy Eat World is one of those bands that you DO NOT mosh to. Ever. If you want to go mosh, go to a Hawthorne Heights or an Atreyu show, you can do it there. Not at Jimmy Eat World. Just sing along and enjoy the show, damn it!

In the end, Jimmy Eat World is one of those bands you have to fork over the money and see live. I know I may be a little biased towards them but still, they put on a show regardless if you are a big fan or not.

This is my first ever show review, so if I missed something or should have left something out, let me know!! Be sure to listen to the Mike and Tom Awesome Show every Saturday from 6-9pm only on 91.3 FM WTSR or online at http://www.wtsr.org/!!
